CORNWALL Council said it is investigating reports of spraying of hedgerow at Kilkhampton.
According to Natural England, some hedgerows are afforded protection under the Hedgerow Regulations 1997. These regulations sit under the remit of Local Planning Authorities.
Hedge spraying was recently reported to Natural England by Cornwall Council as a potential Wildlife Incident Investigation Scheme (WIIS) incident.
A spokesperson for Natural England said: “We informed the council this does not fall under the criteria for investigation as no animals or beneficial invertebrates (insects that perform valued services like pollination and pest control) were reported as being affected.
“We advised the council to contact the Rural Payments Agency (RPA) in case of any possible breach of an environmental scheme.”
A spokesperson for Cornwall Council said: “This matter has been reported to the council and we are investigating it.”
