'LAUNCESTON has been let down' — these were the words of a Cornwall Councillor before a 140-housing development was approved on land in the town last Thursday.
The mixed-use development, including 40 affordable dwellings, by Hallam Land Management will be on land north of Upper Chapel.
Cornwall Council turned down the developer's first application of 100 houses, but it was later given the go-ahead at appeal.
Hallam's resubmitted plans for 140 houses, open space, new access, cemetery extension and car parking, was approved by the council's strategic planning committee in Truro last Thursday.
Concerns over access at Moorland Road and Western Terrace remain, despite a commitment from developers to improving visibility at the junctions.
