In this period of cutbacks and recession, local artists Franca Westaway and Caroline Cleave refuse to be downhearted, and are using their passion for art to bring a smile to people's faces. With permission from landowners, but no funding, they have decided to use the county as their canvas and share, on a very large scale, their work with anyone who is lucky enough to see it. At first light, before their working day began, the artists wrapped up warmly and gave their time and energy to spread some love on Valentine's Day, creating this huge heart comprising over 1,200 flags in a location that was "widely visible, but secret" near Bude. This is the first of many 'HeARTfelt' installations which will be appearing across the county over the next year. There will be an opportunity for the public who have seen any of them to post their responses on Franca's blog at http://www.girlgekko.wordpress.com">www.girlgekko.wordpress.com.
