A Zumbathon was held at Budehaven Community school on Saturday, February 23 to help raise money for the CLIC Sargent charity.

Three of Bude’s local fitness gurus, Lisa Wood, Rosie Lewis and Sarah Curtis, organised the event in aid of raising money for the cancer charity.

The three ladies get together each year to combine their expertise and to have some fun with the community.

Organiser Lisa Wood said: “We get together each year to put on something for the public.

“This year we had about 45 people turn out for our Zumbathon and raised a great amount.”

From the two-hour intense session they managed to raise an impressive £1,203. Lisa continued: “We started collecting for the event about six to eight weeks before it started so it has been a real success.”

This year the charity chosen was inspired by a friend of the fitness instructors and how their son, Ben, had battled with cancer since the age of two.

Lisa explained how crucial CLIC Sargent had been. She said: “They were a massive help and we have a real understanding of how imperative their services can be, especially in supporting the family.

“Little Ben Bennet took took part in the yoga and Pilates this year and after was clapped at the event as he had just learnt to ride his bike without stabalizers.”

Lisa continued: “To help raise the total we also gave away some goodie bags with various sessions included. We each donated eight sessions with two in each goodie bag, as well as securing some other sessions like massages and sports therapies.”

These were kindly donateed by Rachel Shorland, Sarah Miller, Nic Molner and Sandra Dumas.

“It was such good fun this year and I can’t wait to plan next year’s event already!”
