BASICS Devon, a small local charity which provides immediate medical care to rural areas — including Holsworthy and Stratton — needs the public’s votes to help secure £5,000 of funding from the Aviva Community Fund.

BASICS Devon’s network of doctors provide immediate access to specialist medical care at the scene of an accidents or illness. The Post area is covered by Dr David Hillebrandt from Holsworthy and Dr Angus Macdonald from Stratton.

The team wants to help save lives in North Devon by having an additional emergency volunteer responder and the funding will help with this. This will make a huge difference to communities in remote rural areas, with a quick response time it will help save lives and ease the pain and suffering of those that are sick and injured.

The Aviva Community Fund finances more than 500 projects, big and small to communities across the UK, but BASICS Devon needs to get as many votes as possible, to make it to the final to face the judges and hopefully be in with a chance of getting some much-needed funds.

Fundraising manager Amie Bull said: “Please vote for BASICS Devon. I witness first-hand how our volunteer responders dedicate their lives to helping others in their local community. They have full time careers and young families of their own, yet are whole heartedly committed to volunteer to help save local lives and educate their communities in otherwise isolated areas. They really are life savers and they want to continue to invest in Devon and its people.”

BASICS Devon is a network of 14 emergency volunteer doctors providing immediate access to specialist medical care at the scene of an accident or illness. Making themselves available around the clock throughout the year, responding to incidents at the request of the South West Ambulance Service. So far BASICS Devon has responded to 338 call outs this year. The charity relies solely on donations.

People are encouraged to vote to help save local lives as the first priority for the BASICS team of doctors and the motivation and dedication they have is for the people in need in their local community, the patients they help and their loved ones, when no one else can.
