A FIRST birthday party will be held for the North Devon Hospice’s first ever outreach centre in Holsworthy, The Long House.
All will be welcome to celebrate this milestone with the team at The Long House centre on Friday, September 23, between 10.30am and 3.30pm.
In its first year, The Long House has made a huge impact in the community and has provided 1,200 sessions of care to local people who are affected by cancer and other life-limiting illnesses.
The hospice now wants to invite the whole community along to celebrate the buildings first birthday and to show them just how much of a difference its services are making.
Claire Sherwood, from North Devon Hospice, said this would be a great opportunity for the community to come along and see how their support is changing local lives, she added: “The support received during The Long House appeal, and since the building has opened, has been incredible.
“Our first birthday celebration is a great opportunity for all local people to come and see exactly what a difference their generosity has already made.
“We are supporting dozens of people each week and have provided over 1,200 sessions of support since opening.”
Visitors will be welcome to pop in during The Long House’s birthday celebrations between 10.30pm and 3.30pm. There will be cake and refreshments on offer, along with a tour of the building with members of the hospice care team.
Claire said: “This is a chance to invite the whole community to pop in and discover what The Long house is all about, and how North Devon Hospice are caring for local people.
“There will also be a slice of birthday cake and a cup of tea for everyone, so there’s even more reason to come along!”
Charlie Bond, a hospice counselor who supports people at The Long House, said that ‘it will be a privilege to show people what goes on there on a day-to-day basis’, she added: “Since opening just a year ago we’ve provided support to people in a variety of ways and, of course, all our care is completely free of charge.”
Charlie explained that dealing with the impact of cancer or a life-limiting illness can be tough, not only on the patient but on their loved ones too, and the hospice team make sure they are their for the family as well.
Charlie said: “Over the past year we have offered counseling, massage, reflexology, art therapy, bereavement groups, pamper days and opportunities for families to create art and memories together.
“We are keen to let the community know how their fundraising has supported others. This is a wonderful building. We hope if you come and see us you’ll see why so many local patients and families have found this place to be a sanctuary. We look forward to seeing you there.”
It is hoped that members of the local community will come together to help the hospice celebrate The Long House’s first birthday.
