CORNISH housewife Wendy Trevennor had been 16 stone for many years and felt totally unmotivated to do anything about it.
She said: “It was something I just accepted about myself, like having spectacles or freckles, something I didn’t think I could change.
“I was lucky enough not to suffer any health issues due to my weight, no dodgy joints, no breathlessness or swollen ankles. I’ve always had bags of energy as well.
“Then a dear friend, who was the same age as me and the same weight, was given the news that she was pre-diabetic. I knew a bit about diabetes and the havoc it can wreak on the body, from writing blogs professionally, and it was like a wake-up call. After Christmas I went straight to Slimming World’s Camelford group — and I never looked back. The support at the club, the love really is amazing — I have made lovely friends there.”
Wendy Joined the Triple Gold Award-winning group in Camelford Hall, Clease Road, Camelford, which is held 52 weeks a year on Thursdays at 5.30pm or 7.30pm or on Friday mornings at 9.30am. The friendly supportive group week on week helps members to achieve their dreams, just like Wendy has.
Julie Ferris, the Slimming World consultant, said: “Wendy has been an inspiration to the group with all her fabulous cooking ideas, helping transform everyday meals to the fabulous, liberating food optimising plan, where nothing is off limits. Wendy and the group still enjoy pasta, potatoes, meat and rice to eat family friendly meals such as fry-ups, lasagne and roasts.”
Now Wendy, a 64-year-old grandmother, has shed five stone and is within half a stone of her target weight.
“I feel like a new woman,” she says. “I have thrown or given away all my old baggy clothes and bought skinny leggings, fitted jumpers, lots of new underwear three sizes smaller! When I was big, dressing was more about camouflage; now it is about looking nice and being pretty.”
Wendy, a WI secretary and parish clerk, finds she has even more energy for her activities now, and another bonus is that husband Alan has also shed two and a half stone simply from sharing her optimised meals.
She added: “And I don’t think he usually realises they are any different from what I used to cook, either!
“Slimming World is so easy; I didn’t believe I could have such a lot of food and still lose weight, and the ‘Syns’ system means you don’t ever have to miss out on anything, as long as you count the ‘Syns’. I will never go back to my bad old ways.”
