A GP surgery in Delabole will now be able to dispense from the establishment, following a successful appeal against NHS England.

Dr Garrod and Partners applied for outline consent to the NHS Commissioning Board in August 2018, seeking approval to provide a dispensary service from Delabole Surgery at 46 High Street, which is thought to benefit the community — particularly the elderly population — by improving vital local health services, and not infringing within the one-mile radius of other surgeries in the area, such as Port Isaac and Boscastle.

However the NHS England’s South West Pharmaceutical Services Regulations Committee reviewed and refused the application at the beginning of 2019.

The applicant has since appealed the decision and it has been announced that they were successful, with the board considering a number of positive points in regards to a dispensing service in Delabole, with Cornwall Councillor for the area Dominic Fairman iterating the limited public transport to pharmacies, with the service being a ‘major benefit’ to everyone in the community.
