THE first meeting of ‘Positive Parkinson’s’ coffee morning, held at The Long House at Holsworthy on Monday June 3, was a great success and attended by more than 20 people, writes Christine Williams.
After settling in with teas and coffees Chris Jewell and Mike Moore from the Bude Canal & Harbour Society gave an interesting talk which was followed by a delicious buffet.
Positive Parkinson’s is an initiative of Parkinson’s UK Torridge Branch in association with Holsworthy Rotary Club which aims to bring support and encouragement to patients, their families and carers in the area. There is no charge.
As well as a weekly exercise group at Chilsworthy, there will be a number of events including a golfer/non golfer evening of fun at Holsworthy Golf Club on Thursday, June 20.
Organised by the Rotary Club to raise funds for this important work, the cost is £12 per person including a meal afterwards.
Meetings are held on the first Monday of each month and the speaker for Monday, July 1, is from Devon Air Ambulance Trust, followed in August by Lynn Gill, the specialist Parkinson’s nurse.
As well as new members the help of volunteers is needed and speakers for future meetings.
