THIS was another fine performance from Launceston U-10s against a strong team from Helston, writes Mark Brewerton.

The match started very evenly with the first five minutes passing by without a score from either team. Both defences were very powerful in the tackle and in the contact area making it very difficult for either team to build any momentum in attack.

It was quickly clear that Launceston were in for a tough match but this challenge seemed to spur the boys on and they slowly got on top as the half wore on.

Launceston's defence was relentless and aggressive as it has been all season and once Launceston scored two tries in quick succession through Sam Parham and Charlie Wevill this seemed to knock some of the fight out of Helston.

Three more tries were scored before half time with Harry Brewerton scoring a fine individual try and Sam and Charlie bagging a second try each.

The team was much changed for the second half and Helston started to come back into the match scoring their first try after a long period of pressure. Launceston responded well and raised their game once again with James Heale really playing strongly in this period scoring two fine tries and tackling his heart out all across the pitch.

Launceston's forwards started to dominate in all areas and three more tries were scored with only one more score from Helston.

Despite the scoreline and some very strong elements to their game, Launceston still need to work on using the ball more effectively with a number of scoring positions being wasted due to slow ball or boys taking the ball on their own when a pass was the better option. Sort these small details out and the boys will be really dangerous!

Man of the match James Heale.
