A TOTAL of 184 Year 11 students were celebrating on Thursday, August 25 at Budehaven Community School, as they received their GCSE results.

The English and mathematics grades have exceeded all previous years’ results, with the percentage of students gaining an A*- C in these subjects both being significantly above the national average, and 70% of the year group gaining the higher grades in both subjects.

Headteacher, David Barton, who retires from the headship at Budehaven at the end of this month, was delighted with the students’ successes.

He said: “Everyone at the school has worked so hard to achieve these excellent results, and I am so pleased that the students’ and staff efforts have been rewarded. Many students this morning have been over the moon when they have opened their envelopes and seen the fruits of their labours in black and white!”

Deputy headteacher Tracey Reynolds, who takes up her appointment as headteacher on September 1, was equally thrilled, adding: “We are celebrating the best English and Maths results that the school has ever enjoyed, with 80% of the year group gaining a higher grade in English and 74% in maths. With our fantastic A Level results last week, placing us in the top 10% nationally (A Level Performance Systems, 2016), we are very much looking forward to the new year ahead.”

Nine students achieved seven or more A* and As in their GCSE results.

Morgane Dumas achieved outstanding results, including ten A*s. Christopher Worden achieved nine A*s and As amongst his results, and Pearl Bamford, Archie Hedge-Evans, Joseph Hussey, Molly Langford, Benjamin Morrison, Amy Townsend, Daniel West complete the nine.

Paul Hartley, vice chair of governors, was full of praise for the students’ achievements.

He said: “Students and staff have worked extremely hard, and parents and families have supported them through school for the last eleven years. These GCSE results will prove a springboard for young peoples’ future success in the years to come. Well done to them all, and congratulations to them from all the governors.”

Enrolment for Budehaven’s Sixth Form takes place in the school library on Thursday, September 1. Students should come along to enrol at any time between 9am and 12.30pm.
