THE local police team worked together with members of the public to move hay bales, which were obstructing a busy Holsworthy road.
Reports were received on Tuesday, August 11, that a number of hay bales had been lost from the back of a tractor’s trailer.
Two members of the Holsworthy Neighbourhood Police Team, PFCSO Mark James and PCSO Emma Tomkies, attended the call to reports of hay bales blocking the A388, between Holsworthy and Clawton.
PFCSO James told the Post: “Five bales in total fell from the tractor trailer, two of which were partially obstructing the carriageway.
“These were in a position which created a potentially dangerous situation for drivers, on this fast A road. Following a report from a local Firefighter, who had witnessed the incident, we were able to respond quickly and, with the help of another passing tractor driver, move the bales to a safe position off the carriageway, before there were any collisions. “
Working together with members of the public the police team were able to move the obstacle from the road and into the gateway of a driveway.
PFCSO James added: “Traffic disruption was kept to a minimum thanks to the quick co-operation of the tractor driver, and a local resident who allowed us to push one of the bales onto his driveway.“
Since the incident the details of the driver who lost the bales were obtained and officers have spoken with him.
For anyone who is unsure as to what to do if they come across an obstruction like a hay bale or any other object in the middle of the road, PFCSO James gave this advice: “I would encourage any member of the public who comes across this kind of situation, be it involving bales or any other objects which are likely to cause danger, to contact the police via 999 as soon as it is safe to do so.”
