AUDIENCES packed Holsworthy's theatre recently to see the latest HATS (Holsworthy Amateur Theatrical Society) production, 'Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs', and were treated to wonderful entertainment with sumptuous costumes, stunning sets and a generous dose of music, comedy, and audience participation, writes Christine Williams.

The script, chosen by producers Heather Prouse and Mary Osborne, followed the traditional story, yet was right up-to date with topical references and 21st century humour. Slap-stick humour as in the kitchen scene with an exploding microwave, larger than life characters, one-liners and puns ensure there was plenty of comedy, and the technical team had indulged themselves with some computer age humour.

A feature of the pantomime was the large number of characters, giving almost half the cast of 40, a chance to shine in a principal or cameo role. Among newcomers to HATS, Elizabeth Eccott was every inch the wicked Queen, dressed in black a la Ann Robinson, whose cackles evoked the anger of the audience.
