HAS the fairground at Bude had its day? That’s the question that came up at Bude-Stratton Town Council’s meeting on July 5 when mayor, Cllr Bob Willingham, said it had been suggested that the annual fair had ‘had its day’.
“Twice a year, the fairground comes to the (Summerleaze) car park, creates lots of litter and takes up lots of car spaces. Some people feel it’s had its day, and doesn’t have a place in Bude anymore.”
Cllr Lesley Moores said: “I think it should continue — it’s a tradition. Those who have lived in the area for a long time know the children enjoy it.”
However, Cllr Paul Tilzey disagreed, saying: “I think Bude has outgrown it. It’s had its time. I’m dead against the fair.”
Cllr Simon Browning proposed requesting a copy of the terms and conditions of the site to see the agreement between Cornwall Council and the fairground. All agreed.
