A HARVEST celebration at Hallworthy Market, followed by an auction, raised more than £1,000 for a heart charity.

HeartSWell benefitted from £161 collected at the harvest songs of praise in the market’s stores sales ring on Friday evening. This was then boosted by £1,032.70 thanks to a raffle and auction in the Wilsey Down pub.

St Gennys Silver Band led the singing of the hymns in the market. There was a reading by Fiona Ham, and soloist Elizabeth Hobbs sang two songs, accompanied by her guitar playing. The guest speaker was the Rev Richard Ward-Smith, well known in the area as a former school teacher and the recently retired vicar of Kilkampton.

There were refreshments in the market café before bidding began for lots in the charity auction, auctioneered by Patrick Dennis of Kivells.

Ricky Cobbledick of the Wilsey Down expressed his thanks to everyone who supported the harvest auction.
