APRIL Extra Medal at Bude & North Cornwall Golf Club — A very blustery day saw 26 hardy soles take on the elements in the monthly extra medal. Unfortunately no one broke nett par so the end result a reduction only day. A good day's fresh air! writes Barry Sykes. In the top six positions five were single figure members showing that conditions demanded that extra bit of skill. Two of the day and for a good time to come must be Lawrie Bridges who slotted in a two on the dog leg par five 454 yard 18th.

Triangle Trophy — The first leg of this year's Triangle Trophy was held at Bude this past weekend. Played on the same day as the extra medal as reported above teams found the conditions tough.

With the format of teams of ten and the best eight scores to count, stableford off the back tees, best man in was Paul Walton who playing off 6 handicap saw his new handicap drop him into the cat 1 circle. Bude who are the current holders of the Trophy won aggregate taking a slender lead into the second leg to be at Launceston on May 23. Points total to date: Bude 243, Launceston 235 & Holsworthy 229.

Van Rennan/Player Cups —What a difference 24 hours makes to the weather, no wind to speak of and shirt sleeve weather. The scoring reflected this with the top five players seeing a drop in their handicaps.

Top man for the day having just recovered from his 18th birthday bash was Harry Wellington who returned an amazing score of three under gross (68) giving him 45 points to carry over into the second round next Sunday. Hot on his heels is Dean Ryland with 40 points who was last year's Van Rennan winner. Two of the day must surely go to in form Paul Walton who dropped his second shot in on the par four 370 yard 6th.
