THE ‘Best Dressed Window’ competition was judged on Monday, July 4, as part of the many events occurring in this years St Peter’s Fair.

Judged by Holsworthy Town Council and mayor Cllr Jon Hutchings, this event was a great opportunity for businesses in the town to show their creative flare and design a window display with the theme of the ‘Queen’s 90th birthday’.

With even an appearance from Her Majesty the Queen, albeit a cardboard version, the town was filled with red, white and blue colour as businesses fought for the top prize.

The results for the ‘Best Dressed Window’ competition are as follows: 1st prize went to ‘The Hat Shop’ and ‘The Cleaners’ on Fore Street, 2nd prize was awarded to florists ‘Floral Designs’ on Chapel Street and last but not least 3rd prize went to Thomas Westcott Chartered Accountants on Fore Street.

Kerry Smith from The Hat Shop, said: “Myself and Pauline (from The Cleaners) were thrilled to win joint first place for the window competition.

“The Hat Shop display celebrates the Queen’s 90th birthday with another ‘hatinator’ that I designed and made for Royal Ascot which I wore. I have also done a potted history of the Queen’s life.

“Pauline opted to do a humorous window which depicts the Queen’s back garden. Here, the Queen can be seen celebrating her birthday with an airer full of the Royal families underwear, including Prince Harry’s cheeky boxers and Kate’s slinky pink and black bra and pants! The Queen has also got a sneaky bottle of gin in her pocket!

“The effort that all the shops made for the window competition is fantastic — a lot of time, thought and preparation go into making them.”

Mayor Jon Hutchings said: “It was very difficult to chose a winner for this competition. It was very hard because we had a lot of people enter and all made a great effort.

“We had a Queen’s birthday theme and it was great to see all the Union Jacks around the town showing the effort everyone put in.

“It was nice to see that everyone who entered put in a lot of effort, even those who only did a little display, it really helped brighten up the town.”
