AFTER 30 years service as an assistant librarian at Holsworthy Library, Mary Barfett has retired.

Last Saturday, November 9, friends, members of the reading group and colleagues gathered in the library and presented her with a bouquet and several gifts.

Mary recalled the numerous changes she had seen over the past 30 years. The library had been enlarged and a children's corner created which was used by school groups and for 'story time', but the opening hours had been cut.

The main change, however, had been the use of computers for issuing books and research and their availability to the general public. As a result, fewer non-fiction books were being borrowed than formerly.
