CAMELFORD Town Council hopes to introduce a ‘Happy Bench’ to the town.

Mayor of Camelford, Claire Hewlett, presented the scheme to councillors at their most recent meeting on Thursday, September 5.

She said: “This is a ‘happy to chat, combatting loneliness’ project which is happening all over the country. It fits in with Purple Angel (dementia awareness campaign).

“It would involve a sign on a bench encouraging people to sit if they’re happy to chat. I think it’s a lovely idea. It’s just finding an appropriate bench at the entrance of the park. It’s a sign you put on an existing bench, and it’ll be a screw-in plaque.”

No discussions were needed, as Cllr Rob Rotchell proposed to accept this initiative. Cllr Alan Burgis seconded the proposal and all were in favour.
