EGLOSKERRY School now has a defibrillator on site.

Members of staff, together with a representative of FOES (Friends of Egloskerry School), have undertaken training.

Thanks have been expressed to Mrs Barnard, of FOES, for her work in achieving this important advance in health and safety provision for the school.

The defibrillator has been provided by a charity — Hand on Heart — which also provided the training.

At the same time, all the children in Class 3 completed a session on basic first aid, part of developing their awareness of health, safety and welfare.

The defibrillator has been registered with the South Western Ambulance Service NHS Foundation Trust’s accreditation scheme, which provides guidance and support in storing and using the machine.

Egloskerry School was one of Hand on Heart’s monthly nomination winners, and the primary said it would encourage other parents, teachers or pupils from schools in its area to visit their website and nominate.

Hand on Heart has provided more than 600 defibrillators to schools across the country.

The charity’s website is handonheart.org

A spokesperson from Egloskerry School said: “We are very proud to be one of a fairly small number of locations with defibrillators in Cornwall, and this resource can also be used by the local community if the need arises.”
