A family from Hallworthy, who run a large dairy unit on Tregray Villa Farm, won the title of ‘National Youngstock Producer of the Year 2018’ at the recent Excellence in Farming Awards, held in London.

The Post previously reported that the Bradley family had been nominated, but last week they were delighted to win the prestigious award, beating stiff competition from around the country.

The family, consisting of Graham and Kate, their three sons Sam, Harry and Luke, and Graham’s mother Ann, milk 900 Holstein Friesian cows that average an annual yield of 9,800 litres per cow, with milk going to Dairy Crest in Davidstow. The family produce 896 calves every year either as replacement heifers for their herd or as Bbx calves sold off the farm.

They were nominated by ForFarmers account manager, Matt Jenkin, who wanted the family to be recognised for their attention to detail and the health of their animals.

Also delighted with the news were Tamar Vets, who work with the family’s livestock and perform routine visits for the Bradleys twice weekly. This work also involves calf management. The practice said: “They (the Bradleys) thoroughly deserve it. Congratulations to them and we hope they enjoy it. No doubt there will be many more to come.”

Graham Bradley said: “We’re obviously very pleased to have won this award because it was a national competition — we were up against the best in the country.

“This gives us recognition for what we do and all our stock. We hand rear them, and passing this onto the next generation to do a good enough job is what you want, really.

“We just want to thank Matt for the nomination and for his belief that we are doing a good job.”
