‘BUOYS and Ghouls’ aged between seven and 14 joined the Roadford Lake ‘Scream Team’ for the inaugural ‘Hallowe’en Spooktacular’ on Saturday, October 29.

Twenty-four enthusiastic youngsters participated in sailing the ‘stormy seas’ to discover if the legend of the lake was true.

Setting off from the activity centre to the café, on to the sundial with a search of the cob house and surrounding area, before landing on the spooky island and then heading back to solve the anagram to unlock the coffin for treasure!

After a hot lunch, the ghoulish group carved out their best pumpkin designs before being judged for their fancy dress efforts.

Centre Manager, Matt Lennox, awarded a prize to Tyler for his ‘jigsaw’ costume.

After the costume judging, a mad game of mummy wrap took place, followed by the best game of apple bobbing the Roadford team have ever seen!

The raucous laughter was proof that this new event was a resounding success!

A game of bones, what’s the time Mr Werewolf and fishing around in zombie brains for yummy treats rounded the day up nicely, finishing with marshmallow toasting to help calm down the fiendish bunch before being collected by their parents.

Event organiser, Sarah Hallett, said: “I’m totally awestruck at how successful the day was. All born from an idea that popped into our heads whilst trying to develop new ways to introduce youngsters into sailing, whilst keeping it fun for our existing junior sailors!

“We had a great mix of complete beginners and experienced children, who all had a great time and learned something new whilst making new friends!

“Special thanks must go to our parent volunteers, Sam and Katherine, who made the day run smoothly and were a massive help, both, before and during the event. We look forward to hosting more themed events in the very near future!”

Mrs Warburton said: “It was a really fantastic day and very well organised. It had everything my little horrors wanted! Graveyard treasure hunt across the lake, landing on their very own treasure island, followed by games with lots of gore and goo!”

Josh and Thomas, siblings who attended the event, said: “That was totally awesome, thank you Roadford!”

Roadford Lake’s Junior Club runs every Saturday throughout the year for eight to seventeen-year-olds and during the summer for six to seventeen-year-olds. No previous sailing experience is necessary.
