DESPITE strong objections by local elected representatives and residents, last Thursday a meeting in Pyworthy Village Hall of Torridge District Coun­cil's Plans Comm­ittee gave the go-ahead for the development of the first permanent gypsy and traveller site in Torridge at Derriton, near Hols­worthy.

The proposal, submitted by Tarka Housing Ltd, was approved by six votes to three.
