SEVEN members of Cornwall for Europe, a cross party campaign group, took to Launceston town square with a stall on Saturday to talk all things Brexit.
The purpose was to engage with the public to see if they would support a people’s vote on the final terms of Brexit, and would sign a letter to Scott Mann, Conservative MP for North Cornwall, asking him to support remaining in the Customs Union and single market. Over 30 letters were signed and many more people took information sheets away with them.
There was a mixed response, as was expected, echoing the referendum. Opinions on both sides seemed entrenched, leaving Green Party spokesperson for North Cornwall and Camelford Town Councillor Claire Hewlett to draw the conclusion that people are as divided today as they were during the referendum process.
The EU nationals spoken to on the day were understandably worried about the uncertainty of their future, with several trying to decide whether to up-root their families and leave now or stay and hope for the best.
This is one of a series of events around North Cornwall — the next will be on May 10 in Wadebridge from 11am.
