A CALL has gone out for anyone interested in re-establishing CAR (Camelford Association of Residents) with the aim of fighting the proposals to re-introduce car parking charges in Camelford to get in touch.

Alan Burgis, who is also a town councillor, has given people until January 31 to get in touch, otherwise CAR will fold.

He said: “It’s a bit emotive. People see something, they put it on Facebook and then they forget about it.”

CAR was initially formed around six years ago to fight a decision by the then town council to introduce car parking in Churchfield car park.

All councillors, bar one, lost their seats to new candidates who stood on a free parking ticket.

Now the issue of charging has been proposed again, following complaints from residents who said they have been unable to park in the car park.

The council has investigated and part of the problem has been found to be that spaces taken up by residents without private parking of their own and by people car sharing.

Although a town council sub-group has been set up to look into the car park, Alan felt not all aspects of the problem has been looked into, such as looking at the possibility of another field for more parking for car sharing and residents’ parking.

“A lot of people are making a lot of noise. If they could come together perhaps there is room for them to make a point and get some changes made.”

So far a couple of people have showed interest in joining, and the group needs four members to be able to elect officers.
