THE office of Green Party MEP for the South West, Molly Scott Cato, has commented on her recent trip to Camelford, having recognised the town’s needs.

The MEP’s visit to Camelford on Wednesday, November 1 last month saw her meet with Green Party spokesperson for North Cornwall, Claire Hewlett, and other Green supporters and representatives.

Dr Scott Cato visited Cornwall to talk Brexit with Cornish farmers, fishermen and local people at a series of venues in the county and to gather people’s views on the approaching Brexit deal.

Her visit to Camelford allowed her to recognise the town’s air quality and pollution problem, and Cllr Hewlett, a town councillor and also chair of the Camelford Clean Air Group, was happy to show her around.

Dr Scott Cato said, following her visit: “I found it a very interesting visit to Camelford, and an illuminating walk through the town. The traffic problem is appalling and we can see that, exceptionally in the context of Green priorities, there is a strong case for diverting such traffic from the town, even if some new road building might be required.

“I also noted that Camelford has fantastic potential. It seems to me to be a very nice place to live and work. The Greens have many policies that could help achieve such progress, such as prioritising local businesses and employment and more self-sufficient local economies, and supporting excellent local public services, in part through ensuring a fairer taxation system that prevents tax avoidance and also properly taxes the assets of the wealthiest in society.”
