PUPILS at a Holsworthy primary school are celebrating success in a national competition run by The Co-operative to recognise work to bring issues of sustainability and healthy living to life among students and the wider community. A commemorative plaque and £1,000 prize money was presented to Holsworthy Primary School by Mark Bertram, manager of The Co-operative's Holsworthy food store, after judges were impressed by the schools 'eco focus', which included; working with a local beekeeper to understand the importance of bees, energy saving initiatives, its focus on Fairtrade, growing fruit and vegetables, and creating habitats such as a bug hotel for wildlife and mini-beasts. The school will use the prize money to further develop creative projects for pupils, staff and its wider community to explore issues of healthy living, environment and sustainability both inside and outside the classroom.
