TRETHORNE Golf Club Seniors captain Paul Young had a well attended open day at St Mellion Golf Club with members, ladies and guests enjoying a fine day's golf with lots of prizes to be won.
It was man of the moment Brian Spencer who added to his trophy collection winning the major prize with a great 42pts stableford. Brian has had a great year upon his return to golf so many congratulations from the members.
The runner-up on countback with a good 39pts was Graham Hodge just pipping Tony Woods who had 3rd place. In the ladies section the prizes were kept in the family when Shirley Hodge was the winner by 1 point from Yvette Woods.
The prizes for nearest the pins on the 5th and 12th holes went to Ian Patrickson and Graham Hodge.
The biggest cheers of the day went to the winner of the day's lowest score, Ernie Barrett who is an ex-member now living in France and had travelled over for the day's event. Ernie's excuse was it was a very rough sea crossing causing loss of co-ordination.
The last match of the season resulted in a fine victory for Trethorne over Lostwithiel 51/2-21/2.
Captain Paul Young & Brian Spencer started the match off well with a good 4&2 win, other winners were Ian Crichton & Len Stanmore 5&4, Tony Wood & Alwyne Earl 5&3, Mike Vanstone & Steve Saunders 2&1, Derek Marshall & Alick Venning 2&1 with Ian Patrickson & Ivor Nicholls gaining an hard fought drawn game.
The club's Knockout Matchplay Competition semi-finals have been completed and in the match between Ian Crichton and Keith Piper both players played outstanding golf but it was Keith's putting which just won him the match on the last green.
The semi-final was between Ian Patrickson and Steve Saunders, who is the form man at present and was expected to reach the final, but on the day Ian's experience never let Steve get into the game and Ian ran out a comfortable winner.
