THE 30th Bude Jazz Festival was held from August 29 to September 1, and apart from some drizzle and a shower on the Tuesday morning, the weather was kind to those present.
The festival started at 10.30am with a brolley parade from Bude Light to the Triangle, where Lesley and Justine from Sainsburys judged the brollies and gave out prizes, generously donated by the store.
Following this, Judy Ward, general manager at The Cornish and Devon Post, presented a cup for the best dressed jazz window. The first prize went to Children’s Hospice South West.
The parade then continued along the Strand, the Crescent to finish up at the Brendon Arms.
From then on, it was jazz all the way! The festival was limited to five venues all in the centre of town, which allowed stroller ticket holders to walk easily to the bands of their choice.
This year the music focused on traditional and New Orleans Jazz, while holding on to the most popular of other styles from years gone past.
There were sessions in the morning, afternoon and evening, with a wide variety of music being played to suit all tastes.
One of the highlights was the Budapest Jazz Band, who are touring the country.
Other acts included George Huxley’s All Star Jazz Band; Craig Milverton Trio; Dave Stradwick’s Sussex Jive Kings and Jools and the Jazzaholics.
There were also four free afternoon bands in the bandstand, and the good weather meant a large turnout each day.
Committee member, Kim Tresidder, said: “There was a great atmosphere around the town with jazzers meeting up with old friends.”
He hopes for the 31st festival next year to take place from August 28 to 30.
