ALTARNUN bell ringer, Gordon Sandercock, has received the Truro Diocesan Guild of Ringers long service award for 65 years of service.

Continuing the family tradition, Gordon learnt to ring in 1949, and has also looked after the bells in Altarnun, helped with new ringers and has been a great ambassador for bell ringing.

Fifteen past and present Altarnun bell ringers, including Gordon’s son and grandson, were there to congratulate him on his achievement. Following this, John Barker, the Altarnun steeple keeper, wrote and presented an entertaining poem named ‘To Gordon, Master of the Bells’ in his honour.

The tower captain, David Shoubridge, presented the certificate.
