A RARE break in the wet and windy brought an excellent crowd of supporters and followers, young and old, for the Tetcott Hunt's traditional New Year's Day meet at Stratton.

Generously hosted by Emma and Bob Semple at the Tree Inn it was yet again another fine example of the huge support for hunting, particularly over the festive season.

After enjoying a stirrup cup and some tasty snacks the riders and hounds set off for Marhamchurch where trails had previously been laid in the open countryside.

Diana Stevens, a joint master, said: "With the early morning heavy rain it seemed madness leaving home for another soaking.

"But the weather cleared perfectly in time for the meet and from what I gather it sounds like the weather was the best in the county."
