Put out the flags! It's great to celebrate — be it a long, friendly association such as with Canada and those other countries which stood by us through two World Wars, or thorough loyal patriotism as with St Piran, St George or our membership of the world's greatest democracy: one which is now under attack from all sides.
Therefore I applaud Launceston Town Council's decision not to raise the recently legalised European flag to commemorate our membership of a trading association which has slowly evolved into a suppressive and expensive bureaucracy that has done us few favours, other than to expose the weakness of our masters at Westminster. Policies dictated from Brussels have crippled our fishing and farming industries and, if recent news is to be believed, would have us subordinate the City of London's pre-eminence to EU legislation.
Good for Launceston! —the border town which may have failed to ward off the Saxon invader but has taken a brave stand against recognition of Napoleon's dream.
Widemouth Bay.
