CAMELFORD vicar, Rev Jim Benton-Evans, is trying to raise much needed funds for the highly successful toddler group, Tommy's, which operates out of St Thomas Church – and lower his golf handicap at the same time!

On Saturday, July 3 Rev Jim will attempt to play 100 holes of golf – five and a half full rounds – at Roserrow Golf and Country Club in St Minver, where he is a member.

He thinks he will need to begin at about 4.30am in order to finish whilst it is still light.

Roserrow are supplying a buggy and making their 'Spike Bar' available as a supporters' area on the way, so parishioners and members of the toddler group can go and cheer Jim on.

EXPANSION

PLANS

Tommy's has been running for nearly two years and has between 20 and 30 regular toddlers attend every Monday morning.

Rev Benton-Evans said: "We really want to expand and take the children outside, but in order to do so we need to fence of the garden area behind the church, which is what the raised money will go towards."

He is enthusiastically looking forward to the challenge — though he doesn't expect a repeat of last October's achievement when he hit a hole-in-one on the par three, 16th at Roserrow.

"I'll be happy just to get round!" he added.
