ANDREW Dance, Trethorne Golf Club captain for 2008, nominated the Robert Johns Leukaemia Fund as his chosen charity for the year. 'The Captain's Charity', as it is known, supports local charities and raises thousands of pounds each year for a worthy cause. Over the 12 months £4,606.88 was raised from various events held at the club which included a charity day held on August 30 which included a raffle and auction kindly sponsored by members and local businesses which raised £2,500, a 50p fine each time a ball landed in the lake on the 8th hole which raised a further £1,000 and the remaining amount was raised by silly bets and members donating their prizes. Andrew Dance presented the cheque to the charity's main trustee, Bob Johns MBE, at Trethorne Golf Club on Thursday, February 19. Bob said he was absolutely amazed at the amount raised by the club over the 12 months and said it was the largest single amount raised from one organisation and couldn't thank Andrew and everyone who had supported the captain's charity enough. Andrew also wished to take this opportunity to thank everyone and especially to Trethorne Golf Club for their support.
