Tom Morris — The third and final round of this season's premier men's winter competition at Bude & North Cornwall Golf Club took place last weekend in ideal spring conditions, writes Barry Sykes.

Favourites after two rounds – Andrew May and Trevor Tape it appears did not come out to play and only scored 34 points. This enabled the golden men from the senior section (Llew Courtenay and Den Haydon) to overhaul the eight point deficit and take the honours for 2008/9. Super sub of the day and the three rounds must surely go to Mike Jennings who helped his partner from 88 after two rounds to 99 overall. Their 41 total took them into the prize bracket for the third round.

Round 3: 42 Llew Courtenay & Den Haydon; 41 Paul Maynard & Graham Barker; 41 Mike Jennings & Peter Lewin; 39 Martin Mullard & Steve Bartrop; 39 Simon Greatbatch & Gary Stone.

Aggregate for three rounds: 108 Llew Courtenay & Den Haydon; 108 Andrew May & Trevor Tape; 107 Steve & Terry Rickard; 104 Martin Mullard & Steve Bartrop; 102 Jim Ryan & Laurie Bridges; 100 Ray Downes & Pete Kimpton; 100 Simon Greatbatch & Gary Stone.

Curtis Cup — This rearranged medal from last November was greeted with what must have been the worst weather over this cold winter. The morning's golf was a mixture of sunshine, very strong winds and for good measure two massive hail storms.

Only eight players managed to break nett 80 on the day and Dinger Bell did not seem to notice all the conditions to return a fabulous 75 nett 70. Simon Greatbatch was close on his heals with a 75 nett 72 and if only he had not made an unusual visit to the burn on the 17th he also would have returned a nett 70. Amazingly there were only five nil returns on the day.

70 Martin Bell; 72 Simon Greatbatch; 74 Jack Wellington; 74 Ray Downes; 75 Dean Ryland; 76 Darrell Troop.
