ON Thursday night this was a must win game for Bude who needed six points from their two remaining games for promotion and with Roche just a place behind this was going to be a tricky tie.
An even and competitive opening 20 minutes saw few chances apart from a through ball to Billy Hopcroft who rounded the 'keeper, but a defender did enough to put him off and he couldn't get his shot off.
Bude took the lead after 25 minutes, a free kick on the right from Herbie Goodgroves into the box was volleyed in low by Gary Hodgson after finding space.
Five minutes later Roche pulled one back when their striker hit a unstoppable shot into the right corner from just outside the box. Just before half time Bude won a penalty when Dan Starkey was brought down in the box, Hopcroft stuck the spot kick away.
Bude went 3-1 up five minutes into the second half, Hopcroft played a one-two with Jason Ferrett and Hopcroft was through and tucked his shot away. The game was as good as wrapped up after 70 minutes when James Giordani won a crunching tackle in midfield and put Hopcroft away, on the edge of the box he was fouled but had got his shot off which flew low against the right hand post and in for his hat-trick.
Bude continued to work hard throughout the remaining 20 minutes and kept their promotion hopes alive for another two days ...
Bude 7, Polperro 1
BUDE'S final league game of the season saw them needing to take all 3 points to gain promotion and a nervy start to the game saw them go one behind inside the first five minutes. Zak Davey put in Rocky Moon who smashed a shot from just inside the box past 'keeper Gary Dinshaw.
Bude slowly got into the game and equalised after 25 minutes. A Herbie Goodgroves free kick from the right picked out Dan Starkey at the back post who headed back across goal and Gary Hodgson arrived to volley in from close range.
Bude took the lead right on half time, another Goodgroves free kick just outside the box was floated into the box, Polperro defender Jay Chard under pressure, chested the ball back past his own 'keeper.
Bude went further ahead minutes into the second half, a cross from the left flank found the run of Wes Pugh whose delicate flick nestled into the bottom right corner.
Dan Starkey made it 4-1 on the hour and the floodgates then opened as Bude dominated the remainder of the game. On 65 minutes Billy Hopcroft got one on one with the 'keeper, his shot was saved but was followed up by full back Herbie Goodgroves to tap in at the back post.
Soon after a Jason Ferrett cross from the left picked out Starkey who finished for his second. Bude began to get the bubbly out as striker Tommy Statton got Bude's seventh and final goal of the season with a a weaving run and fine finish.
Bude's promotion was confirmed after the game as they received the runners-up trophy and medals.
