THERE have been major improvements at Holsworthy Community College with significantly improved exam results and often outstanding teaching, according to education inspectors.

The new judgement from the school standards agency, Ofsted, is a real accolade for the college which was rated satisfactory in the last inspection in January 2012.

Since then Ofsted has introduced a tough new inspection regime which makes it harder to achieve the highest grades.

Four Ofsted inspectors spent two days in Holsworthy before half-term and have now graded every aspect of life at the college as 'good' in their new report.

In the report, it was stated the college's overall effectiveness is good and so is the achievement of students, the quality of teaching, the behaviour and safety of students and the leadership and management.

Principal David Fitzsimmons has worked to bring about the improvements, in partnership with his very able and enthusiastic senior leadership team and the focused governing body.
