MAY Day celebrations in Lewannick were a huge success.

The annual Lewannick May Day was ‘tremendous’, according to Sarah Fry, secretary of the Lewannick Community Events Committee, who said: “The weather was perfect, there were huge crowds and a fabulous day was had by all.”

As usual, the day kicked off with the beautiful May maids and boys, who were led to the village square with Mary the pony, followed by the traditional Maypole dancing. The crowds then had the chance to enjoy all the amusements, as well as the amazing array of crafts, food and plant stalls that were on offer this year.

The Cornwall Cricket All Stars also joined the events, offering free taster sessions to the younger visitors. The evening finished with a live band in The Archer Arms.

Great fun was had by all and the total amount of £1,665 was raised to go towards outdoor learning activities at Lewannick School.
