VILLAGERS heralded the return of the Lezant Horticultural Show after three years.

The weather was beautiful and there was a small breeze which was most welcome to everyone.

The main marquee was filled with a glorious array of flowers, pot plants, vegetables, cookery, art, photography, preserves, handicraft, wine, floral art and of course the children’s entries.

This was the first Show after the sad death of the Chairman, Mrs Mary Crew, earlier this year and it has to be said that the Committee worked tirelessly to put on a Show that lived up to her exacting standards. The Show was opened by Miss Rhona Cowling, who was a great friend of Mrs Crew’s and she give a heartfelt speech which was very well received by all. Miss Cowling was then presented with a lovely bunch of flowers and an orchid. Inside the marquee, the exhibits were all marvellous and of a very high standard. Considering the Show had been absent for three years, the entries were numerous. When one entered the marquee, an explosion of vibrant colours and smells greated you and it looked wonderful. Outside, the children were entertained and enthralled by Magic Martin and everyone fell in love with the three alpacas brought by Mr Peter Swann of Sunnydale Alpacas, Lowley Brook Farm, especially when they took a stroll through the marquee! Launceston Town Band kept everyone entertained during the afternoon with a great medley of music, both old and new and the ladies of the WI kept everyone fed and watered with their delicious teas and there was also a boot sale and games for the children (and some adults!) to play. The Haberdashery Van was also there and a steady stream of customers were seen going in and out. The Parish Council and Launceston Metal Detectorists also had a stall at the Show, with the Detectorists showing off their finds which had been found locally. Thanks must also be given to the Launceston First Aiders who provided cover during the Show. At the end of the Show, the raffle was drawn and the Cups and Rosettes were given out.

A spokesperson said: “It was lovely to see the new residents of Lezant Parish entering the show for the first time and getting some first places. Don’t forget to enter next year!”
