THERE was success for Launceston YFC as they came home with wins in the dancing, singing and ‘Member of the Year’ categories at the county finals.
On Saturday, January 16, eight members of the club won the dancing round at Liskeard.
As part of their performance they had to complete four dances to the theme of ‘Tomorrow’s World’, using different dance styles.
The following day the choir and ‘Member of the Year’ competition was held in St Ives Guild Hall.
There were 17 members from Launceston YFC taking part in the choir. They had to choose two songs to sing, one of which has to be from the TV series ‘Glee’.
The songs chosen were ‘All You Need Is Love’ by the Beatles and ‘Cornwall My Home’, a Cornish anthem.
The competition was strong but they managed to win, gaining a worthy 89 points.
Thanks were extended to Sally Grigg for the dance coaching and Roger Williams and Janet Ham for their direction of the choir.
The ‘Member of the Year’ competition was also held at St Ives on January 17.
Club chairman Oliver Stephens won ‘Senior Member of the Year’. Applicants for the award have to go through a series of interviews and challenges before being awarded the title.
Congratulations were also extended to Nick Uglow for being placed second in the ‘Junior Member of the Year’ category.
