THE town hall in Camelford has welcomed back its most famous ‘resident’.
The weathervane camel and the cupola that top the town hall in Fore Street have been repainted as part of building work on the historic premises.
The work was organised by Camelford Town Trust, which owns the town hall. Trust clerk Jill Jeffs said:?“The camel weathervane — the town’s iconic symbol — has been repaired, repainted and returned to the top of the newly painted cupola by the builders Rob Kent and Rob Tippet. Once the scaffolding has been removed it will light up the centre of the town.
“The first phase of the repairs should be finished by the end of the week, leaving the roadside work to be completed next spring before the summer traffic.”
For much of the tourist traffic using the Atlantic Highway, Camelford is the first Cornish town they go through
The town trust, which has nine trustees, hopes that everyone will ‘spend some time in Camelford’ and admire the work that has taken place.
