GUEST speakers at Bude Rotary Club’s Monday lunch on August 15 were local girls Molly Turner and Sarah Harker, who the club had sponsored on a recent Rotary Youth Leadership Award programme based in Okehampton.

RYLA is an international rotary scheme which aims to encourage the development of teamwork and leadership skills in young people who have the potential to be future community professionals and business leaders, making use of a residential experience and outward bound activities.

Molly and Sarah talked about their fully packed week which included things such as night hikes, kayaking, rock scrambling, blind-folded climbing and abseiling along with evening sessions led by army personnel and local businessmen.

They learned a lot about working with other people (who they are still in regular contact with), but more importantly learned a lot about themselves. If you are aged 16 or 17 and would like to be considered for next year’s course please contact Bude Rotary Club.
