A HOLSWORTHY man has been awarded a silver medal from Her Majesty The Queen.

At a recent private investiture at Buckingham Palace, Gilbert Harris was presented with a Queen Elizabeth II long and faithful service silver medal by Her Majesty The Queen for his 20 years service as a gardener to the Royal Family.

He had already been awarded the Royal Victoria medal which was presented to him by Prince Charles a few years ago. The citation, signed by the Keeper of the Privy Purse, stated: 'Her Majesty the Queen has been pleased to award this medal to you in recognition of your long and faithful service to your sovereign'.

Gilbert was brought up in Holsworthy and attended Holsworthy primary and secondary schools. From an early age he was keenly interested in gardening.
