HUNDREDS of people marked the arrival of spring by donning their wellies and greeting the new arrivals during Duchy College Stoke Climsland’s famous ‘Family Farm Day’.

The annual event gave visitors the opportunity to get behind the scenes of a working farm, meet the animals and enjoy a tractor and trailer ride through the countryside that surrounds the campus in South East Cornwall.

Duchy College farms director, James Coumbe, said: “We would like to say a massive thank you to everyone that came along on Sunday; the weather was on the chilly side and it was great to see so many people finding out more about our farm. Spring is an important part of our calendar and we wanted to let the public know what it means and educate them on where their food comes from.”

Throughout the day children were able to find out all the facts about sheep, climb on the college’s tractors, meet the cattle and get up close to the newborn lambs.

Rob Dunn, head of campus at Stoke Climsland, which is part of The Cornwall College Group, added: “It has been a fantastic weekend, full of fun and information. The arrival of spring puts a bounce in the steps of the farming community, it becomes incredibly busy but very rewarding and we are delighted to open up our campus for people to come and explore.”
