HOLSWORTHY Library held a ‘Crafternoon’ in support of the Mental Health charity MIND on Saturday, June 30.

The afternoon was a chance for people to come together, chat and craft in a relaxed friendly atmosphere whilst enjoying refreshments.

People either brought along one of their own craft projects to work on or joined in with a shared project.

Shared projects included making poppies to decorate the town with. This is part of the ‘Poppy Town’ project organised by Holsworthy Town Council and the museum.

Poppies were knitted and crocheted for display around the town and crafters also started on paper poppies to decorate the windows of the library.

Another joint project was making bunting for the libraries forthcoming ‘Fun Palace’ in October.

Fun Palaces is a free, ongoing campaign for culture at the heart of community and community at the heart of culture with an annual weekend of events each October.

On Saturday, October 6, Holsworthy Library will join more than 300 Fun Palaces across the UK — and globally — set to erupt with free and fun activities, celebrating culture in the community — and the whole community is invited.

The Fun Palace motto is ‘Everyone’s an artist and everyone’s a scientist’.

A spokesperson for the library said: “We plan to provide a community space in Holsworthy Library for people of the local community to share and learn new skills. The aim is to be able to have a go at a range of arts, cultural and science activities.

“If you are interested in sharing a skill with your community for free please contact us. So far we have willow weaving, a citizen science project from Westcountry Rivers Trust and guitar pedal looping! What could you share? A craft? A language? A science experiment? Or something completely different. Let us know!”
