LANSON Gammon Club is hosting a ‘Big Board Game Day’ to raise money for the NSPCC on Saturday, June 18. The event will take place at St Giles-on-the-Heath Village Hall and starts at 10am before finishing at 5pm.
Event organiser Paul Shaw is hoping for a healthy turnout, which will see players square off in classic board games such as chess and scrabble with all proceeds going to the charity.
Mr Shaw said: “The NSPCC advertised a ‘Big Board Game Day’ around the country for clubs like ourselves on May 27, however a few of us were unable to be there so we’ve decided to do it on June 18 instead.”
Admission is free although donations on the door are welcome and people are encouraged to bring their own games if they would like. Refreshments will be on offer while the club are offering some excellent raffle prizes including a day out at Launceston Steam Railway, and discounts at selected hairdressers, florists and fish and chip shops.
For those interested in board games and are keen on taking up a new sport, the club meets every Tuesday night at the Pint and Post pub in St Giles-on-the-Heath and are affiliated to the UK Backgammon Federation which was started last year.
