EACH year, tutors at Budehaven Community School propose the names of Year 13 students whom they think are eligible for The Jon Coney Memorial Award.

This award is named after a young man who attended Budehaven School but passed away suddenly on August 23, 2004, aged 17.

To be selected for the Jon Coney Award, the student must have performed well throughout their time in the Sixth Form.

Potential winners must be diligent, respectful, committed and focused. They are, in essence, a model student and an excellent role model for students lower down the school.

Georgia Higham, who lives in Bude, was nominated this year by several teachers, who admired her all round approach to Sixth Form life. She is a highly regarded student and someone who has achieved an excellent level in all her studies.

Georgia is sitting A Level exams in Travel and Tourism, PE and Biology this summer and is aiming to work in the sport science industry. Georgia has received an offer at Cardiff Metropolitan University to read Sport and Exercise Science.

The names of past winners are displayed on a beautiful wooden honours board in the foyer of the main school, a fitting tribute not only to Jon Coney himself, but also to a succession of other outstanding students at Budehaven.
