OVER the last two months Godfrey Holter, parish councillor and resident of Treburley, has been restoring the village pump.
The pump was last featured in local news reports around 50 years ago when it was the only source of water for several of the cottages in ‘Old Treburley’ and there was a desperate need for a mains supply.
Godfrey is a retired electrical engineer and inherited a love of carpentry from his father.
His first task was to rig a tower to enable him to lift the pump that was followed by 30ft of lead pipe. He then stripped back and restored it in his workshop, making a new pump piston from scratch and building a new wooden frame.
The pump was then put back into its original position and is in full working order, for the first time in many years.
Lezant Parish Council clerk Eira Hancock expressed thanks to Godfrey who volunteered his time and expertise. Materials were financed out of the Lezant Parish Community Fund.
