BUDE Canal Trust had the misfortune recently to have a Stihl brush-cutter and hedge trimmer attachment stolen.

The theft happened on a wet day while the volunteers were sheltering nearby from the rain while eating lunch. The insurance would barely cover half the cost of replacing the items.

A letter was sent to Stihl, explaining the predicament for this small charity — the company came up trumps and donated a new brush-cutter power unit. This, they said, was after looking at the trust website and seeing the good work done on the section of the historic canal the trust owns and manages.
