THE Bude WaveRiders Club (BWRC) is gearing up for the start of the new season.

As usual the club will be kicking the season off with a bang with the annual Pritchard Cup on Saturday, May 21.

While originally named in thanks for his generous donation which helped to get the Bude WaveRiders Club off the ground, following his untimely passing last year, the Pritchard Cup will now be held in loving memory of the club’s friend, coach and general WaveRider legend Dave Pritchard.

The BWRC team said: “In the spirit of Pritch we will be holding a whole day and night of fun and festivities including individual short and longboard surf competitions, Tag Team Foamy surf contests, barbecues, bonfires and all round beach fun.

“Sign in for the competitions will be at 8.30am so get down to Summerleaze beach nice and early to sign in and grab yourself a breakfast bap. All BWRC memberships have expired so come down to Summerleaze beach to sign up for another great year of fun and surfing.”

The club has acquired a host of new volunteers who will be trained up as beach lifeguards to keep the Friday training sessions fun and safe.

The club would welcome those thinking about joining the club or wishing to find out more to have a chat with them at Summerleaze on Saturday.
